Honda Civic (88-91) Performance Parts
In 1988, Honda introduced the fourth generation of its popular Civic line. The Civic EF feature some obvious differences from the previous year like more glass and a lower hood line and some less obvious ones -- they were the first Civics to have a double-wishbone suspension. Trim levels ranged from standard, available only in a hatchback body style, to top-of-the line EX, which was only available as a sedan in 1990 and 1991 (the last year for the fourth generation). In between were DX (hatchback, sedan, and wagon), LX (sedan only), and the sporty Si (hatchback only). All powerplants for the Civic were SOHC I4, but size and power varied by trim, with the standard having a 1.5-L rated at 70 hp, the DX and LX having a slightly more powerful 1.5 at 92 hp, and the EX and Si having a 1.6-L engine that produced 106 hp. In the wagon body style, the DX could also be powered by the 1.6-L engine, which could be paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Otherwise, four-speed and five-speed manual and automatics were the options.
