While it is certainly agreed that you car unlikely to be a home built convertible, the same forces exist to try to distort the body. By simply tying the two sides of the strut tops together the distortion found under hard cornering can be eliminated. If left un-braced your car will suffer from ''dynamic-alignment changes.'' There is enough flex in the body to change what should be static camber, toe and caster settings. This change can make steering response and body roll more pronounced and unpredictable.
